I was a crew member from
1953-1955. I was on the flight deck, as a telephone talker and in flight
deck control. Any other members from the ship still around? How can I get

I am a retired Chief Machinist
Mate, as a matter of fact I put on Chief while onboard the Midway in 1988.
I started my career on the Midway in 1979, my first command. Later I
returned to a different world in 1987, the new Navy had made a significant
influence on the crew of the tip of the swords leading ship. My last
reenlistment was aboard this great ship while in a decommissioned status at
Bremerton Naval shipyard. As part of the CINCPACFLT MTT I trained the
Midway crew also. This ship is a major part of my life, I worked A-gang
first and returned to run 4 group main engines. Thanks for the chance to
recall the excellent memories I have of the USS Midway. Feel free to
contact me if you ever spent time onboard while I was there. 1979 - 1981,
and 1987 - 1990. |

I was stationed on Midway from
1984 to 1989, in the Dental Department. I qualified ESWS October 1985, to
my knowledge I am the only Dental Technician to qualify onboard the
Midway.
I retired Dec 95 after commissioning the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3)10 days
after returning from her maiden deployment.
My 5 years onboard the Midway were the higlight of over 21 years service.
I will always remember her with pride and a sense of loss now that she no
longer serves actively.
An old member of the Foreign Legion. |

I am a YN1(AW), currently
serving with Navy Recruiting District New England, with orders to report
to PSD Guam in February 2001. I served onboard Midway from August 1985 to
March 1989, assigned to the Air Department, V-5 Division. I will say this
much, I feel the best command I have ever served with to this day was the
MIDWAY. Being my first command in the Navy, I learned what the Navy was
all about. I will never forget my experience onboard this terrific ship.
It truly had the Midway Magic, and to this day, is still the finest
carrier in the fleet. |

I served
aboard USS Midway with VA-93 from 70/72. I was an AMS working on A-7A&Bs,
A fellow AMS and myself designed and painted the large sharks mouth that
appeared on our A-7s during that period. One of our birds made the cover
of a publication on A-7s depicting our bird on a
mission over the jungles of Viet-Nam. The reason for the mouth was not to
frighten Viet-Cong, but to aid in the prevention of corrosion caused by
the blast of the guns which would blast the paint down to the metal in
just a couple of missions. Many a time I can remember running along side a
plane with a can of paint, spraying like hell, as the yellow shirts were
taking her to the elevator for
another mission. |

Cool Site. As
I get older I treasure the memories of that old boat more and more. I was
there before they tore down the Hole In The Wall in the P.I.. I was
onboard when we got hit by the Lybian tanker, and I got my tan off the
coast of Iran! |

A very good history of a fine
Naval vessel. I am happy to have had the pleasure of being a member of the
original commissioning crew and a "plank owner of CVB-41". I served on her
thru the shakedown and Operation Frostbite and left the ship on June,
1946. A great experience for a young man. |
