1980-1983,
VA-93 (AIMD),
A7E Doppler Tech.
I Lived on her 24/7/365 just like a snipe or blackshoe...but we had air
conditioning!
My supervisor owned My Place Tacos and My Other Place Bar in the P.I.
I never made it to far in the Navy but I'm still using the talents I
acquired to make a living. Oh yeah, I've been married three times since I
left the ship so I guess I really am a Midway sailor! |

I served on Midway from
February, 1980 until February, 1982. Spent lots of time doing circles off
of the coast of Iran. I remember my time in Yokosuka very fondly. Glad to
see a site dedicated to CV-41. Life was good in the "Land of the Rising
Sun"
P.S. My mom still has a Midway "Zippo" lighter that I bought her nearly 20
years ago...still works perfect!! |

I was on board for the 1954
Med Cruise as a YN2 staff member in ComCarDiv FOUR. RADM A. K. Morehouse
was the Commander. He was also the skipper of MIDWAY the latter part of
the 1940's. I loved the cruise in every was but one...my compartment was
aft of the starboard catapult on the 02 level. Five A.M flight quarters
were not popular with me.

Proudly served on Magic for 3
years with VA-56 Champions from 81-84. She was one of the finest fighting
ships in the US Navy and I will always be proud to have been a part of
her. God bless you Magic and all the fine men who served you. |

I was on Midway in 1972 when she pulled into alameda Naval air station. I
remember waiting for her to come in, I was at alameda for about a month. I
was boiler tech in fireroom 4baker. there is a lot of history with this
ship. I remember when a helicopter had just taken off her flight deck, and
almost immediately it went down on her starboard side. All the crewmen
onboard were killed. They found them still strapped in their seats when
divers went down to retrieve the bodies. I was working in the ships bakery
at the time we had heard about the accident. I'm really impressed with
this site and it brings back memories of my days on the ship. Thank you
for keeping her alive I miss the travels I experienced on her. It's kind of
haunting to see her in moth balls when she was so full of life and
activity. there are other tragedies that happened on that ship when I was
aboard and I will never forget them, they are a part of her long history I
guess but I will always remember that she was my first duty station
embarked for Yokosuka. |

Hello shipmate
I still miss the Magic and I wish it was still alive and well. I still get
choked up every time I see her. I wish i had a cruise book, also I would
love to find some old ship mates.

Sure did bring back some good
memories. Those days really never leave you mind. You don't realize how
nice they were until you've been away from them for a while. I've been out
for 24 years after spending 22 years in.
In a way I really miss those days. |
