Thank you for your work and research on the Midway. I am a plank owner from the 1970 commissioning. My orders out of boot camp in August 1969 were to "Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, Building 41". Midway was still in drydock at that time and since it was not a commissioned vessel, it was referred to as a building. I left Midway after the sea-worthiness and operational trials were completed. As it turns out, my nephew served on Midway during it's last deployment.

I recently ran into a fellow shipmate at a new job I recently started. He works the second shift as a pressbrake operator. He was in the aviation fuel crew and I was a Shipfitter.

I served on the U.S.S. Midway, for two years, for a portion of the time I was in the U.S. Marine Corps. Our Detachment, served the Security, Honor Guard and burial detail and as an emergency land force for the ship. I have some fond memories and some sea sick memories. For instance I got sea sick and threw up, before we got to the Golden Gate Bridge, on our way to the sea from Oakland, Ca., for a 6 month cruise to the Far East.

I have enjoyed reading your web site. Well done!! and Thank You.
