I was truly impressed with
your site although it lacks one major incident that happened in 1979 a
collision at sea with the Freighter MV Cactus port of registry hong kong |

I flew off Midway in the early
50's in the AJ-1 Savage. I was in VC-5 and we operated primarily out of
Port Lyautey because we were too big and fouled up the deck as this was
way before canted decks. |

Served Onboard USS Midway from
1980-1984, attached to E-Division. This ship was the most memorable
highlight of my career until retirement, all because of the people that I
served with, and the places that the Midway took us. If there is anybody
that I served with that would like to contact me, my Email address is
available. |

Very much appreciate your
discussion of the Midway. I served aboard very briefly in summer of 1978
while liaising (there's a military word for you) w/JMSDF. The Navyman page
brought a tear to my eye. I race in ocean-going sailboats for fun, and
people often ask why I'm a good shipmate. I always credit my time afloat
with the USN. |

I am truly pleased that the
rumors
about the midway being sunk to make a man made reef of of san diego proved
to be false and can't wait to come out for the grand opening of the
monument next year. |
