I was aboard several days before the commissioning. Spent 9 months aboard. Was on "OPERATION FROSTBITE" as well as several shakedown cruses. I am more than likely the only person alive to have walked under the keel of the ship. (while in drydock) Also the Navy Day celebration on the Hudson river N.Y.
1945.

Great site for a great ship. I flew F-4's with VF-151 from the Midway from 1971 to 1973. I saw lots of action over North Vietnam. I'd never do it again, but wouldn't trade it for the world.

Was onboard the Midway when she was hit by the Cactus. The tail assemblies of the alert F-4's were destroyed. The ship sustained heavy damage to the angle deck such that we returned to the ship yard at Subic for awhile. We went to GQ with a high risk of fire. Was onboard with a brother, hoped he would survive. Was friend to one of the sailors who died. Was a bad time.

I would like to know if there is a roster out there of the sailors, enlisted who served on this carrier. My father served during the Vietnam War, but I don't find any registers listing him as being on the Midway, Saratoga or Bon Homme Richard, when he was serving on them.
