I was in Bremerton when MIDWAY was towed in from San Diego after being decommissioned. At that time she was the the largest ship in the mothballed fleet at Bremerton. At her destination, she will once again feel the pulse of life as visitors climb up her ladders and walk her decks. WELCOME HOME!!!

I served on the Midway from 1961 - 1965 as a cook; I always had plenty to eat and the best liberty and plenty of friends. I miss those good old days.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of I. Morris, CS1 pass on my email to him.

I sailed on the Mighty Midway from january 1961 thru September 1964. I served all fours in the ships Print Shop - X-Division. I have the 1961 and 1963 westpac cruise books and about 500ft (*8mm Movies) of flight ops and refueling at sea. I'd be willing to donate these to you or the museum. I can't believe this beauty of the sea has been resurrected and still floating. I'm so proud of being part of her fantastic history. Let me hear from you. Thanks and God bless those of the Midway.

I served on the Midway 1962 - 1965 in V1 division. I was mainly in the fly two area wing walking those A4's and also operating the tiller bar on A4's. I also operated the number two elevator. I am looking for shipmates. Please email. This is a great site for a great ship.
Thanks,

This is a great site. I served on the Midway from 84-86 in OZ division/Strike Ops and am very proud of the work we did during that time. I am particularly happy that our great ship avoided becoming razor blades and that she will be proudly displayed in SD.

I served on the Midway from 1959 to 1961 in M-Div. I first saw the Midway in 1959, sitting in the bay at Sasebo Japan. I was impressed then, and when I got to tour her last Dec 23rd, while she was in Oakland I was just as impressed. I'm looking forward to seeing her in San Diego.

Sierra Hotel on your web site I was on board this great lady from 84-88 with VF/VFA 151. This is the best site I've ever seen on the Midway. I will be making a trip to see her in San Diego when they get her ready for the public. Thanks again for such a great web site.

I just wanted to thank you for all the work you have done on the web site as well as getting the Midway back to San Diego. I was ships company from December of 61 to October of 64. It was a wonderful experience for me. I was one of the lucky ones to be present at the Decommissioning in San Diego. My cousin (Richard Mayne) was the last navigator on the Midway and was involved in the Decommissioning. We plan to visit the Midway in San Diego as soon as we can.

Thanks again,
James W. Johnson

I went up to Oakland to see the Midway while she was being "Cleaned-up" and it brought back some great memories of the time on board, 1982-1984, as a Machinist Mate 3rd class for #2 Screw (Main Engine). Being in M-division didn't leave you much free time, but I did manage to wander around and meet some good people onboard a fine ship. I remember the daily updates from Captain McGrail with the "Press-On Gents" and the "Look for the green flash" Lines. That NORPAC cruise close to Russia was interesting with the huge seas making the old gal rock and roll like a Destroyer. Looking back on it, it was the best time I had while in the Navy. I am looking forward to taking my family to San Diego to visit what was the Navy's Finest Carrier. By the way, your website is by far, the best Midway site around. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. P.S. I'd love to hear from anyone onboard during my time there.

Great Site! I really appreciate all the work you put into your Midway site. I was stationed aboard the Midway from 1/81 to 1/83 and really can't wait to visit her in San Diego shortly. I LOVED the pictures taken inside the ship while
it was being painted in Oakland. Thanks for all your hard work, shipmate!

It has been a real pleasure working on the Midway for the last 2 months while she was here in Oakland. I am sad to see her leave, but I am happy for all the Midway Vets that she will have a home forever down in San Diego. So many great Navy ships have been scrapped and lost for all time, but others like the Midway and Hornet, will live on. Special thanks to Troy Prince here at Midwaysailor.com and to my boss CDR Pete Clayton on the USS Midway.

Was glad to see the Big M is on her way to SD. I was on her 46-48. Worked in print shop. She is a grand old ship and deserves the last deployment to be made to a great naval museum-to be. All guys and gals have waited a long time for this to happen! The best of luck to her next duty. Look forward to a visit in the future.
