I just read the entire history of this ship which at one time I called my home. I was in VFA-151 from 1989 to 1992 and served on her during the Persian Gulf War. I am 37 now and a part of me misses the old heavy Hydraulic fluid smell of her passageways. Thank you for this opportunity to remember my younger days, and I thank the Navy for changing my life. There are so many guys I would love to see again.

My brother is in school for aviation maintenance and I was wondering if there is any way you could tell me how to get a poster like the one you have above the poem "Remembering the Forgotten Mechanic"? I would like to get him the poster and frame it along with the poem as a Christmas gift. I would really appreciate if you replied back to me on any way I could acquire the poster. Thank you very much, Matt Dressman

This is a very large version and takes a little while to download. It should print out pretty good.

I served as Intelligence Specialist (IS3)from 1984-1986. I later served on the USS Blue Ridge (IS2) before I left the Navy in March, 1988. I spent my entire military career (1984-88) in Yokosuka, and really enjoyed my late teens and early 20's in Tokyo! Anyone remember partying at Byblos in Roppongi? I also enjoyed spending time at my place on Zushi Beach playing baseball with the local kids. Great times. I have been in contact with a few guys from OZ Division. It's been great to hear from everyone! I'm looking forward to getting down to San Diego to visit the Midway again - someday.

I just visited the Midway a couple of days ago in San Diego. As a former USAF Crew Chief I always wanted to go on board a carrier an see what it what like in the realm of my seagoing brethren.

Well, I was surprised to say the least. The bunk area and lockers are so small. The chow line looked pretty good. And can only imagine what it was like during operations with aircraft slamming down on the deck and multi engines screaming in the comparative small space of the flight deck.

What really stunned me was the deck landing area. Anybody that can put a screaming bird down on that small an area has my salute.

Since my visit I have been looking at web sites on the Midway and came across a picture of her taking water over the bow. Thankfully that was something we did not have to contend with. The rocking and rolling must have made maintenance exciting. IE: engine changes.

But then I think life on a carrier would have been interesting.
