Never was stationed on a carrier, but had hundreds of shipmates who were. Went aboard the Midway 2004 in San Diego, was very impressed.

I was on her 1990-decom, V-1. Does anyone remember when Ramons drove the tractor over the side and he said the brake give out and Big Bubba singing karaoke out on the Honch, and of course we had to jog and workout on the flight deck during quarters. Still don't miss the days of needle gunning padeyes hungover. Great web site, brought back fun times.

Midway Sailors,

You guys have had the good fortune to have the USS Midway preserved. Your Coral Sea brothers are very thankful for that. We can at least relive the feelings of what it's like to be aboard a Midway Class carrier when we visit.

You're also all extremely fortunate to have a webmaster as talented as Troy Prince. He puts in a tremendous amount of effort in bringing this website, the ship, the memories, alive. This is by far one of the best military websites out there!

I hope the Midway lives on for very long time. Our class of carriers were the workhorse's of the fleet. They met every challenge thrown at them and outlasted just about every other carrier that has sailed.

Great ship, Great site!!

Absolutely terrific website. I was only a poor Kitty Hawk sailor, but a friend of mine and a guy who showed me the ropes was AT2 Mark Wilson who came to Kitty Hawk from Midway. We served together in IM-3 division in the mid to late 1970's. He was from New York and worked in the Variable Avionics System Test (VAST) work center or shop.

Great site for a great ship. I didn't serve upon this ship but did on USS America CV-66. Go to ussamerica.org to see a failed attempt to get her donated as a museum. She will be sunk by "live fire" in April of this year. I attended the "farewell" at the Philly Yards in Feb. It's a good thing we have museums like the Midway for our future generations to come. I will be checking back often, kinda miss the 'bird farms'....By the way, I was ships company, 72-75 , SM3

This site is wonderful. My grandfather, Robert C. Doyle, was a career naval photographer. He served on the Midway during the Korean War. I'm wondering if anyone out there might have known him. Thanks for this great site.

Hangar bay red shirt only on it thirteen months 86-87. Anyone remember the hornet that lost a sidewinder off the plane upon landing? Had a friend who got a photo of it and gave me a copy. Glad to see CV-41 is not going to end up in the scrap heap!!! Go Navy!

Shipmate,

Great website, Bravo Zulu!!!!! Served onboard the same period you did, I was in VA-185, we probably passed each other in the passageway, or perhaps sat at the same bar in PI, Thailand or Perth. Maybe we stood at the "infamous" hot dog wagon on the mess deck.

I will never forget the morning we started bombing in Desert Storm and the Admiral summed it with this statement (Or words to this effect) on the 1MC: "SHIPMATES THIS IS WAR AND YOU ARE IN IT"
