I served on the Midway from November 1987 thru December 1990. In 1991 I transferred to NAS Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines; closing that base. So needless to say both my first three commands are decommissioned. My A-School (ABH A-Sch) moved to Memphis in the 90s and then to Pensacola.

I grew up in San Diego. Went to boot camp at NTC. My first assignment was aboard the USS Midway. I was assigned to the Executive department, specifically to KMID-TV and KWAY-FM - the radio and television area as a JO (Journalist). I served while the ship was home ported in Yokosuka, Japan. This had to be one of the best jobs in my life and I'll never forget it. The most momentous occasion was when I participated in a search and rescue operation at sea. I filmed the event on a helicopter. There was a lot more from the flight operations to the visiting mayoral events to the CNO to the footage of the ports we visited. I'll be visiting Midway this summer. I have many stories to tell my son, nieces, and nephews when I visit there. I will don my Midway cap when I go. Yup, I still have the original cap, believe it or not. In fact I have two of them. It WILL be fun.

I love the website. I too am a Navy brat. I am the son of Bob "Woody" Wood, and I see he's got some of his patches on your site. I was shocked to see that because I just kinda stumbled onto the site. I got the chance to live in Yokosuka while my dad was in VA-115, twice. Brings back some great memories.
