I served on the Midway 53-55. Truly a great ship. We made a 7 month Med Cruise and then the transit to West Pac with the 7th Fleet. I've visited the ship twice at San Diego. Worthwhile

I served from late 52 early 55, got transferred to the Saipan when she went to Washington for overhaul on the deck. I was the fly 3 phone talker primarily and also worked fly 1. Was on the flight deck all the time. Remember when the Banshee bounced from #3 elevator and landed on the planes forward with the pilots still in them, also when we or a Destroyer we were refueling collided with us and took out all our starboard guns from the island back, I can still see the mast of the destroyer leaning over towards us as I went out to the middle of the flight deck thinking it was going to crash into the catwalk aft.

My thanks to Troy for putting this terrific site together. I trust it will be there for a long time. I was onboard from Jan '74 - Jan '76 in the "A" gang O2N2 Shop and when in port Yokosuka, I had a house in Kamakura with good friend Eddie Hall, Jesse and had some great times. For those that remember - thanks and never forget our home for so many days and nights "Midway". In 1995, I had the privilege to go on board the Midway with my 7 year old son with just one yard worker for about 2 hours - going to the compartments where I slept showered and lost my wisdom teeth on the way to Singapore etc... Amazing time and opportunity to say the least.

I was a crewmember aboard the Midway 1980-1982 B-Div. Oil Lab. What a great experience (especially that its been over for a few decades) I would not change a thing. I'm looking forward to visiting San Diego and touring the museum.

Thanks for access to this dynamic website. I am trying to find info regarding a sailor that was sucked into the intake of an aircraft aboard the USS Constellation CVA-64, and any accidents or mishaps that occurred between 68 and 72.

I'm a volunteer docent onboard the MIDWAY MUSEUM. What a great site. Hope you all can come and see the ship as she is now. HINT: If you have a base sticker on your car, you can park free on the east side of the Navy Supply Depot across the street from the Midway and walk through the building. Also, the parking meters on the street do not work on Sundays. Double-check and read the regs on the meter just to make sure.
