I served aboard from 80-82 in M-Division number 1 main engine. Had the best experience a sailor could ask for, with the best shipmates and friends that I miss everyday. GONZO station, fun liberty calls, life in Japan.
The best duty you could have as a sailor from Montana.

After I graduated from AO "A" school in Jacksonville, Fla, I chose from a selection of billets to be stationed on the USS MIDWAY for the 1955 world cruise. I can still remember the cold day, manning the rails dressed in our pea coats and gloves as we pulled away from pier 7 to get underway for Mayport, Fla to pick up our air wing. At last we were on our way for warmer weather in Cape Town, South Africa, but we also had the equator crossing on our minds, the initiation by the Shellbacks was pretty rough but after it was over we sat around and had a good laugh on what just happened to us. I believed that I was stationed on two of the greatest aircraft carriers the navy had to offer to a young man in the mid 50's THE MIGHTY MIDDY and the MIGHTY "O". Our time in the Formosa Straits came and went but still my time in the navy was a wonderful experience.

I want to thank Troy Prince for all that he has done for me. All of us ex-Midway crew members and any one else that is interested owe Troy Prince a great big thank you for keeping the wonderful web site alive on the history of a great ship. My son Tony spent over three years on the MIDWAY in the early 1980's, both of us spent two days July 5th & 6th, 2006 of this year for a visit to a great ship. Oh by the way I was ships company V-3 aviation ordnance and my son Tony was a BT. And again thank you Troy Prince for a wonderful web site and I do spend more time than I should but I still enjoy doing so. --Thanks a lot
