I was onboard Midway twice. The first time on her last combat sortie. Got to see her launch a commode. We dropped everything else, so why not? The next time was the late 70's as Cat. Chief.

Stationed with the world famous VA-93 from 1983-85. Remember the shitty drunk nights on the honch in Yokosuka and those fan-fucking-tastic times we had in PI? Those were the days brothers... Granted we worked our asses off but I'd do it all over again... and so would you! The Midway was the only ship I ever knew that had a soul... the others were just hunks of steel.

Hail and well met,
I love the site, have been here before, and will return occasionally.
I am seeking information, I have found that I can get a replacement for my shellback certificate here: http://www.usni.org/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=1448 and am in need of info, I need the Longitude that we crossed. Hopefully someone here can help. We crossed in August of 1985 on our way to Perth Australia. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all,
Bill

Some nice pictures of the old girl ... served on her from Jan 1989 to 1991. Pulled her into San Diego then jumped to another assignment. Sad to see the helm isn't the same... figured someone would walk off with the solid brass one with old-school handles. Look forward to seeing her again one of these days.

Took me hours to read through your whole web site, I had to stop several times to fight back the lump, so many memories making me all misty eyed, the nostalgia in the air so thick you could cut it with a knife.

I was aboard Midway 79 to 82, I started out a boot recruit in Catapults but struck out of there within six months and moved up to the bridge into Navigation department as a Quartermaster. I have many fond memories as well as a few I try not to remember. It was a time of growing up for me, I turned 17 my first month on the Midway, my mom had lied about my age when she sent me to the recruiter, they never did figure it out.

I get all choked up when I think back to those days, we were really young and really green, our whole lives still ahead of us, and no clue where the future would take us. I still have that nagging feeling I left something back aboard the old ship, often I think I need to go back and get it, I need to search each and every compartment I was ever in, I need to find what I lost, the things I left behind, only it's not something you can hold in your hand that I left back there, no it was time and memories, friendships and dreams, things easily lost but impossible to find and take back.

The years have been very good to me since "back in the day" I left the navy after 8 years of service and went on to become a commercial diver, I retired last year after 20 years of diving and logging over 17000 dives. I believe it was my time in the service that prepared me for the life I lived, the discipline and attention to detail saved my life many times.

I'd love to hear from anyone, especially anyone from "back in the day" aboard Midway.

My father, Henry Ford Spears, was on the USS Midway in 1952. He passed away in the 80's at an early age. I am hoping to connect with anyone that knew him or was on the ship at the same time. He had true white blonde hair with beautiful blue eyes about 5 ft 11 inches around 150 lbs. A real looker! (of course I would think so...)

I would be so pleased if anyone that can be of help would contact me.

Thanks so very much... Melody

The Midway was my first ship. I was in S-1 Division from Aug 77 to Aug 79. I am currently in San Diego for about another week and I believe I will visit the Midway tomorrow. I enjoy the memory and the crew when I was aboard the ship. It will always be a great memory.

Served aboard the Midway from Aug 1987 to Jan 1991. I got my sea legs the first two years aboard the Midway working in Weapons Department, G4 Div Weapons Elevators, as an undesignated seaman. I then struck out and got designated as an ADAN and went to “A” school in 1989 in TN. I returned to the Midway and was assigned to AIMD ships company till Jan 1991. I made a lot of friends in both departments and often wonder about them. It would be nice to hear from anyone that I served with in either department or from anyone that was onboard during my time on the Midway that might remember me.

Hello, my name is Jay Davis. I am looking for any info on my uncle, Joe DeNeve. All I really know is that he was on the USS Midway in the 1940's, I think. If anyone knows this name, can you help me find some info for my uncle, his health is not so good these days. Thank You.
