Miller, Ernest Jackson
GLENS FALLS * Ernest Jackson Miller, age 79, passed away on
Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at his daughter's home with family by his
side.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1928, in Glens Falls, to Mae Carr (King)
Miller (born in Crown Point, N.Y.) and John H. Miller (born Hadley
Hill, N.Y.).
Ernie spent his employed years landscaping, and farming.
Ernie served as Fireman First Class on the USS Midway Carrier Ship
(now a museum in San Diego) near the end of World War II.
Ernie loved Florida, Glens Falls, the circus, the sun, chocolate,
Starbucks coffee, travel, and family.
He was an active member of the Bell Ringer Group at the VA (Alby)
and spent many years enjoying the benefits of the Veteran Programs
and Health Care. We are grateful to all who touched his life in
those years. A special thanks also to RSS of Albany.
Ernie had five children with wife, L. Martha May MacCauley Miller
(Fort Edward). Their children and families are: son, Jeffery C.
(Connie) Miller (Queensbury); grandchildren (mother April Jones
Miller), Jeffery and Aaryne (Steve McEvoy) and stepgrandson, Scott
(Robin) Beckwith with stepgreat-grandchildren, Evan and Ryan. Son,
E. Michael (Dawn) Miller (Hudson); grandson, Matthew (Lisa) with
great-grandchildren, Morgan and Colin. Son, R. Mark (Gwen) Miller
(Florida); grandson, Jason (mother Debbie Lazure). Daughter,
Jacquelyn E. (Frank) Athearn (Queensbury); grandchildren, Frank
and Hilary. Son, Cary C. Miller (Florida). Ernie's brother and
sisters who are children of John H. and Gertrude Miller are: John
(Rhoda) Miller, Gladys (Ed) Macker, Myrtle (Ted) Boyer, Frieda
Atwell. Two sisters and his father's first wife perished in the
influenza epidemic in the early 1900s. Sisters born of his mother,
Mae Carr King (Miller) and Guy King are: Virginia (Maurice)
O'Sullivan, Audrey (Burt) Woodell, Violet (Chet) Tyrell, Marion
(Martin) Gough, Carolyn (Charlie) Rappa. Ernie's brother-in-law
is: Douglas (Isabel) MacCauley (Fort Edward). Ernie also has
cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
During these past weeks, we feel particular gratitude to High
Peaks Hospice for their outstanding professional and personal care
of Ernie and his family. Also to the Adirondack Manor Home staff
who did the wonderful service of paying attention and
communicating with family, as well as caring for and about him.
Thanks to his team of caregivers and respite workers, kind and
caring one and all.
Thank you to all who have added to his life and to all who have
eased and shared in his passing. Thank you to all who have loved
and sustained us, his family, during this time. God bless you all.
A memorial service to honor Ernie's life will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, May 12, at the Athea residence, 197 Chestnut Ridge Road,
Queensbury, with a reception to follow.
Interment will be in Glenmont Memorial Nature Preserve, Glenmont,
Fla.
