* HMH-772 were embarked as Midway passed Okinawa on her way from Yokosuka, Japan to Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines. They provided aerial evacuation of the refugees and were also returned to Okinawa aboard the Midway.

** HMM-364 was being relocated to Okinawa following the devastation in the Philippines and were transported aboard Midway during her return to Japan.

to the Navy Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility, Bremerton, Washington

29 AUG 03

Acting Secretary of the Navy, Hansford T. Johnson signed

a donation contract, officially transferring Midway to

the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.

 

 

 

30 SEP  ~ 07 OCT 03

Departed the Navy Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility,

Bremerton, Washington under tow enroute to Oakland,

California.

 

 

 

08 OCT ~ 30 DEC 03

Arrived in Oakland, California & moored at the

Charles P. Howard Terminal to undergo restoration.

 

 

 

31 DEC 03 ~ 05 JAN 04

Departed Oakland, California under tow for

relocation to NAS North Island, San Diego, California.

 

 

 

10 JAN 04

Departed NAS North Island under tow across San Diego Bay

to Navy Pier. This was her final journey, ending where she

will become the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.

 

 

 

07 JUN 04

Officially opened as the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.

 

 

 

?? OCT 07

Officially renamed as The USS Midway Museum.
