Roman "Romie" Och Collection

1955 World Cruise

USS Midway

Roman "Romie" Och was an Aviation Ordnanceman in V-3 Division aboard USS Midway for the 1954 ~ 1955 World Cruise. After leaving the Midway in October 1955, he made another Far East cruise aboard USS Oriskany in 1956, followed by a tour at NAS Point Mugu. Romie was discharged from the Navy as an AO2, but spent time in the reserves as an air crewmen on P-2V Neptunes and S2F Trackers. His oldest son was also stationed aboard Midway for three years in the early 1980's. This collection includes Romie's slides, photos and memorabilia from Midway's 1955 World Cruise and also memorabilia from the 1980's, given to him by his son.

A personal note: I live in Minneapolis and after Romie first contacted me, we discovered he lived only an hour or so north of me. I have met Romie and his family several times and I love hearing his recollections and stories of Midway's early years.
